Our First Endeavor…
was a recess walking and jogging program at Hubbell Elementary School in Des Moines, The Feelin’ Good Mileage Club. This program ran from September 2005 through January 2006. All Hubbell students had the option of participating by walking or jogging laps around the school's field during their noon-hour recess. Laps accumulated to miles and participants were awarded a “Toe Token” upon completion of each 5-mile increment. Students logged over 2,685 miles over the course of the program. |

KidStriders was introduced during the Spring 2006 semester. Five Des Moines Public Elementary Schools participated in the pilot: Findley, Hanawalt, Hubbell, Park Avenue and Windsor.
The program revolved around walking or running a cumulative distance equal to just short of the distance of a half or full marathon - so 13 of the 13.1 miles or 26 of the 26.2 miles. Students received a “Toe Token” for each 5 miles completed.
Those reaching the final goal distance received a special T-Shirt and the opportunity to complete the last 400 meters of their half or full marathon at the Dam to Dam Youth Run on June 3 where medals were presented at the finish line. Nearly 275 students earned their T-shirts and over 110 students attended the Dam to Dam event. |

Founder/Executive Director: Cindy Elsbernd Cindy is a Certified Personal Trainer and Children’s Fitness Specialist through America’s Fitness Professionals and Associates.
Chair: Aaron Quinn Aaron is a psychologist with Innovative Learning Professionals and is also a Certified Personal Trainer.
Vice Chair: Ben Hildebrandt Ben is the Vice President of Marketing, Public Affairs & Member Services for the Iowa Bankers Association.
Treasurer: Kelly Edmister Kelly is Assistant Controller with American Equity Investment Life Insurance Co.
Board Member: Tim Schott Tim is Principal of Hubbell Elementary School in Des Moines.
